The top 10 point scoring fantasy football players

We’ve just moved over the halfway stage of the 2019-20 EPL season with 18 of the 20 teams having played 20 games, with Liverpool and West Ham United to play their postponed fixture at some point in the New Year.

It has been an exciting season so far, even though the title race is all but over. There has been lots of exciting, attacking football played, including by the basement club Norwich City. The reason why the majority of football fans call it the most exciting league in the world.

If you’ve been keeping up to date with our fantasy football captain tips over the duration of the season you will have some idea of who the leading point scorers are. Here are the top 10, from top to bottom:

1. Jamie Vardy

The Leicester City striker had an eight game scoring streak that only ended recently, and is the Premier League top scorer. No surprise then that Jamie Vardy is top scoring in the fantasy football too. The current England international has seen his price sky rocket from 9.0 pre-season to 10.1 currently, but that still makes him cheaper than Sergio Aguero (11.7), Harry Kane (11.0) and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (10.8).

2. Kevin De Bruyne

Although Manchester City have struggled by their standards (16 points behind Liverpool), Kevin De Bruyne continues to be the front runner for the Player of the Season award. The playmaker has racked up an incredible 14 assists and 7 goals in Pep Guardiola’s side. Sure, he has Raheem Sterling and Sergio Aguero to tuck the chances away, but he plays alongside fellow playmakers Bernardo Silva, David Silva and Riyad Mahrez. His 10.5 price is cheaper than teammate Sterling (11.8) as well as Liverpool duo Sadio Mane (12.3) and Mohamed Salah (12.3) as a midfield option.

3. Sadio Mane

It doesn’t feel as though Sadio Mane is being as productive as he was last season but the Senegalese is the third highest scorer in the fantasy football and his team have played a game less than virtually all opposition. However, the Liverpool forward does have 10 goals and 8 assists as Jurgen Klopp’s side have been scoring for fun in many games this season. Priced at 12.3 makes him a big investment, but one that has rewarded many players to date.

4. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

Arsenal have looked woeful for most of this season and end 2019 down in 12th position. Things would be a whole lot worse if they didn’t have striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. The former Borussia Dortmund star has netted 13 goals in the first half of the season, and added an additional three assists. Often played out on the left wing to accommodate Alexandre Lacazette in the striker’s role which makes Aubameyang’s performance even better. If you want to invest in the Arsenal man now that they are playing more attacking football under Mikel Arteta, he’ll set you back 10.8.

5. Marcus Rashford

Marcus Rashford entered the season with a lot of critics but has hit back with the only way he knows how – scoring lots of goals. The Manchester United striker has kept his side in competition for a Champions League place with 12 goals and 5 assists to date, somewhat justifying Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s decision to loan Romelu Lukaku to Inter Milan for the season. His value is still at a cheap 9.1 but he has been playing out on the left over the past couple of games with Anthony Martial delivering as the striker.

6. Tammy Abraham

Frank Lampard had a choice of Olivier Giroud, Michy Batshuayi and Tammy Abraham to play up front this season following Chelsea’s embargo that the young manager joined with over the summer. He went with Abraham, who had previously not played top flight football but helped fire Aston Villa into the Premier League last season. The youngster was hugely impressive during the opening weeks with seven goals in his first five games. He has since slowed down, ending a four-game goalless run with the winner at Arsenal on Sunday. 12 on the season tough and he’s only priced at 7.8. Usually plays at least 80 minutes.

7. Mohammed Salah

The Liverpool superstar has as many points as Tammy Abraham but is substantially more in price – 12.3. Mohamed Salah has repaid his owners with nine goals and four assists to date. Liverpool have a game in hand on 18 teams at some point during the second half of the season which makes him a worthwhile triple captain choice that gameweek.

8. Danny ings

Where would Southampton be without Danny Ings? The former Liverpool man has scored 50% of their goals as they sit narrowly above the relegation zone. If Ings can continue his scoring then he’s a bargain for the second half of the season at 6.6.

9. Raheem Sterling

Raheem Sterling’s goals had dried up until netting in a 3-0 win at Arsenal before Christmas and backing that up with a brace against Wolves on Boxing Day. A popular choice among fantasy football players and a popular choice as captain too. Sterling has benefited from Leroy Sane’s injury for the first half of the campaign but will need to find his form again once the German is back in order to remain on the pitch for 90 minutes each week.

10. Trent Alexander-Arnold

The only defender to make the list is the most expensive one. Liverpool’s right-back will set you back 7.4 if you want to purchase him now. 24 of Trent Alexander-Arnold’s 106 points came in the 4-0 thrashing of Leicester City on Boxing Day where he kept a clean sheet, provided three assists and scored a goal himself. The Reds’ defence has looked stronger in recent weeks so there could be more clean sheets on the way. Plus Alexander-Arnold is putting balls into the box more regularly than Andy Robertson of late, so more assist points could be on the way.
