3-4-2-1 – Draxler On The Left, Goretzka On The Right – Arsenal Likely Lineup From January

Recent news suggests that Leon Goretzka is heading to the Premier League. German legend Oliver Bierhoff let slip the player is off to England and this has led to much speculation. Having followed the situation of the player since last summer, we firmly believe he is heading to Arsenal.

With Mesut Ozil looking likely to leave Arsenal in the winter transfer window, Goretzka could well be his replacement at Arsenal. The Schalke 04 player is able to play the Ozil role, as well as a box-to-box midfielder, which means should Ozil decide to stay, they can play together in the same system.

Aside from Goretzka, Julian Draxler has today been linked with a move to the Emirates. The Paris Saint-Germain player is not getting enough playing time in the French capital and could be open to leaving. Arsenal are said to be working on a loan deal for the player ahead of the January transfer window.

While Goretzka will be Ozil’s replacement, Julian Draxler could be joining to replace Sanchez. Below is how we believe Arsenal will line up should both players sign for the club.

Petr Cech is the the undisputed number one at the club and will continue to be until the end of the season at least unless Arsene Wenger signs someone better, which we believe is unlikely. Arsenal are most certainly going to continue with the 3-4-2-1 formation for a while. We believe the trio of Shkodran Mustafi, Laurent Koscielny and Nacho Monreal will be the three centre-backs. This is unlikely to change unless one of the aforementioned players suffers an injury.

Sead Kolasinac and Hector Bellerin would be the two wingbacks. Granit Xhaka and Aaron Ramsey would most likely continue to play as the two central midfielders.

And this is where it gets interesting. Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez currently play behind Alexandre Lacazette in the current Arsenal system. With both likely to leave, we expect Leon Goretzka to replace Ozil on the right side of attack and Julian Draxler on the left, replacing Sanchez.

  1. It would be a massive mistake to sell Ozil and Sanchez in January. It doesn’t make sense! Not when we could have done so last summer with less dire consequences. Letting them go now would massively disrupt the rhythm of the Arsenal game no matter who is brought in.
I strongly believe they will stay to the end of the season and either sign new deals or leave. That’s the sensible thing for the club under the circumstances.

  2. it could a big blow to arsenal if alexis and mesut leaves on january, i urge them to sign new contract and continue playing for the best team in the world, but if they end up by departing i would urge wenger to replace them with draxler and pastore

  3. All i believe is that no players biger than my familys team (arsenal) but selling them this january will be a very big blow to our season…i wish them stay to the end of the season..we are not the fist club to loss players on free trasfer!! Gunners till infinity

  4. Economically, its not right, lets cash on them and we get players who would to be in the club . football is business anc at times you need return.why keep them and they stay in the premier league because ge club will have no choice wherever they want to play coz they are free. Sell them and get young lads who are eager to deliver

  5. Selling Sanches and Ozil in january transfer is not the problem the problem is that to have replacement of them is problem but we rather sell them in january and buy another player to replace them than to let them go for free in end of the season just like that.
