After Deal Is Agreed, Liverpool Emerge Favorites To Sign £36m Key Arsenal Target

Since Santi Cazorla got injured, Arsenal have struggled. I strongly believe that had Cazorla not being injured during the 2015/2016 season after 15 games, Arsenal would have won the Premier League ahead of Leicester City. The form of the Gunners started to decline as soon as the former Malaga star got injured.

Although he returned back to the team towards the end of that season, it was too late. Arsenal were also doing well in the 2016/2017 season also, but once Cazorla got injured again, their form started to drop. And that’s not a coincidence – Santi Cazorla is a very important player for the Gunners. He has unfortunately not been replaced. Although there have been murmurs lately that Arsenal could sign Leon Goretzka from Schalke 04.

Some media outlets even claim the deal is done and we speculated here that the player will be joining Arsenal. There are however the likes of the Daily Star who believe a deal has been done with Liverpool and not Arsenal. And if you believe the bookies, who are on the money many times it must be said, the German could indeed be on his way to Anfield this winter and not Arsenal. The 22-year-old only has six months left on his contract in Gelsenkirchen and it is reported that Arsenal are ready to pick him up on a free transfer at the end of the season. But according to Don Balon, Liverpool’s manager Jurgen Klopp is not ready to wait, and will try to do a deal for less than £36 million in January.

Most bookies now have the Schalke 04 contract rebel to be on his way to Liverpool rather than Arsenal. Bet Victor and many other bookmakers reckon Liverpool are the favorites to sign the German. Liverpool are priced at 6/4 to sign him, while Arsenal are second favourites at 6/1, and Bayern Munich a distant third at 8/1.

Whoever ends up signing the player between Arsenal and Liverpool will be signing a very good player. Both clubs actually do need him in their squad. He is quite experienced having played over 100 games for Schalke 04 over the last four years. He also has 12 caps for Germany and has scored six goals. He is primarily a deep lying playmaker but can also play the box-to-box role in 4-2-3-1 formation or as the number 10 – the Mesut Ozil role at Arsenal.
