£60m Star Wants To Join Liverpool, Rejects Arsenal & Manchester City

Last summer it was reported that Arsenal star Shkodran Mustafi was on his way out of the club. He was linked with moves to Inter Milan, Valencia and a couple of other clubs. In his place, Arsenal were said to be monitoring the progress of Southampton’s Virgil van Dijk. The big Dutchman was also being linked with a move to Liverpool at the time. Manchester City have also been recently linked with the player but reports claims he has made up his mind to join Liverpool rather than any of the other clubs linked with his signing.

Although Mustafi ended up staying at Arsenal, many, including myself, believe the Gunners could still do with the signing of a World Class centre-back such as van Dijk. Arsenal’s most reliable centre-back remains Laurent Koscielny, but unfortunately the Frenchman is ageing and he is dealing with a problematic achilles, which means he may not be around for much longer.

Shkodran Mustafi remains Arsenal’s only other dependable centre-back after Koscielny, and with Arsene Wenger playing a three centre-back system, there is still the need to sign another player in this position. However, signing Virgil van Dijk is something the Gunners can forget about now. This is as reports claim the £60 million-rated defender has made up his mind to join Liverpool and could be doing that once the January transfer window opens.

Southampton stopped van Dijk from joining Liverpool last summer but I doubt they will be able to stop him again this January, should the Reds make an offer. The fact that the player himself wants to join Liverpool makes it all the more difficult for the Saints.

Virgil van Dijk has played in seven of Southampton’s 12 Premier League games so far this season.

  1. I wouldn’t want van Dijk at City. No hard feelings but let him go to Liverpool. Personally I don’t think he’s that special but Liverpool clearly do. Good luck to him

  2. He is complete as a cb comes in modern football and to suit a technical, high paced team. On stats, in top 3 cbs in prem. The latter is fact

  3. Bullshit frankly instead of spending 60 Million in a player who just came after long time in injury it’s better we buy 2 or 3 central defender in much better price come on guy please make good use of your mind not bad spending of money
