The End Of David Luiz? Chelsea Target Signing Of Powerful 6’2″ CB

It seems David Luiz’s career at Chelsea is nearing an end. Having been dropped from the first team, the Brazilian has since been linked with a move to Manchester United. And according to reports, Chelsea are ready to sell the £34 million star should the right offer be made for him. In his place, the Blues are said to be working on a deal to sign Milan Skriniar from Inter Milan.

Skriniar, 22, was named Slovakia’s the best U21 player for 2016. He was then linked with a move to Barcelona but has confirmed he is not interested in signing for the Catalans – at least for now:

“I am not interested in Barcelona,” he told Mediaset Premium ( quote via “I play for Inter and my objective is to play for Inter. I want to get them to win.

“I am very happy with my season so far and must continue like this.”

From the statement credited to the player it is obvious he wants to help Inter Milan get back into the Champions League which means the chances of Chelsea signing him this January are very slim. With Chelsea nine points behind Manchester City in the Premier League, they could do with a couple of signings in January.

They have been linked with the signing of Lazio’s Ciro Immobile and Inter’s Mauro Icardi up front, but they could certainly do with another defender and midfielder. And it appears Chelsea know this and have reportedly sent scouts to Milan to watch Skriniar in action for Inter Milan against Atalanta on Sunday.

A report by the Sun claims Chelsea have been following the progress of the player for a while now. According to Transfermarkt, the player is worth £13.5 million, which, considering the inflation in the market, would be a steal for Chelsea.

Milan Skriniar has been one of Inter’s best players this season. He has started 13 games for the Italian giants in all competitions so far this season. His partnership with Miranda in the centre of Inter Milan’s defence this season has propelled them to the second position in the Serie table – above defending champions Juventus.

The Miranda/Skriniar partnership has resulted in six clean sheets in the 13 games the Slovakian has played. And at just 22, he has his best years ahead of him. Chelsea will have a tough job on their hands in trying to convince him to leave Serie A this January. They may have a chance of signing him in the summer but if Inter Milan make it back into the Champions League, he may well decide to stay with Inter and play in Europe’s elite club cup competition with them.
