1st January Signing? Chelsea Boosted In Chase For £61.6m Star

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte is said to be in the market for the signing of a good striker; one who is versatile enough to play in other positions as well. That’s a player who can play with Alvaro Morata in the team and is good enough to replace the Spaniard when he is suspended, injured, in need of a rest, or out of form. Hence it is not a surprise that Chelsea have been linked with the signing of Ciro Immobile from Lazio. They have also been linked with the signing of Mauro Icardi from Inter Milan.

However, the Blues may have been presented the perfect opportunity to sign one of their long-term targets. Recall last season when Chelsea needed to sign a striker and they were linked with the signing of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang? Although the Premier League champions have since signed Morata, Aubameyang is still very much needed in the team. He would be the perfect player for Chelsea’s right wing. Just imagine a front three consisting of Aubameyang, Eden Hazard and Morata?

And that could happen as yet again the Gabonese has been sanctioned by his current club, Borussia Dortmund, for disciplinary reasons. This is the second time it’s happened in the last year as he was also sanctioned in November 2016. This could be interpreted to mean things are not smooth between the club and the player. A situation Chelsea and any other club interested in the services of the former AC Milan youth could take advantage of.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang would no doubt suit Chelsea. His versatility means he could easily replace Morata in the starting lineup and he could play both on the right and left flank as well. This would be very useful to Antonio Conte when he has other players in those positions suspended or injured.

Since he signed for Borussia Dortmund in July 2013, Aubameyang has 95 goals in 139 matches. Clubs were quoted £61.6 million for his services last summer, which means Chelsea can expect to get him for around the same amount. In the current market this would be great value.
